Basic Rifle Training

Class Fee: $125.00

This basic rifle class is an excellent introduction to the first-time rifle owner who wants to learn the fundamental safety and handling procedures necessary to be a proficient and responsible shooter. This class is designed to provide hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper orientation to one specific rifle action type.  The maximum number of students for this class is five to insure one on one instruction.  In this three to four hour course which includes classroom instruction and time on the Buck & Doe’s Mercantile indoor shooting range in San Antonio, you will learn the NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; the particular rifle model parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; cleaning the rifle; and continued opportunities for skill development.  Students will receive the Basics of Rifle Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, and FIRST Steps Course competition certificate.


Classes are taught at Buck & Doe’s Mercantile

Class schedule is subject to change, some classes require a minimum class size.


What to bring to class:

  • Driver’s License
  • Pen/Paper for notes
  • You may rent bolt action .22 rifles for $20 and purchase ammunition for an additional cost.  (approximately $30-$35 for gun rental and ammunition)
  • Bring your UNLOADED rifle in a bag or case.
  • 50 Rounds of ammo is required. Ammunition must be commercially produced with brass or nickel casing only.
  • Bring your eye and ear protection.  Buck and Doe’s Mercantile has rental equipment for $5 or you can purchase in store.
